I'm well aware that I'm using the fact that there's a new plan starting as an excuse not to stick with the current plan. Rather a silly thing of me to do. I'm not going to do that this week as I need to lose 2lbs to put me back to a total of 4 stones lost. I want to start the new plan with 8 silver 7's on my new card. Next week my WW meeting is changing to a Wednesday so that gives me 9 days to get those 2lbs off. No excuses this week Karon!

We were given a leaflet about the new plan in our classes today so I'm going to share some of the info with you:-

MOVING to the ProPoints plan
For everyone who knows the POINTS system

The original POINTS system
.
With the introduction of the original POINTS system almost 15 years ago, WW revolutionised the way members were able to manage their weight loss. They could eat any food they wanted, simply monitoring their portion sizes awith POINTS values as their guide. By devising a new calculation that took into account the calories and the saturated fat in a portion of any food, weight loss became simpler, healthier and more liveable. Members could still eat their favourite foods, keep track easily and lose weight regularly.

The new ProPoints plan

In the last decade, weight loss science has continued to build. Evidence shows that the nutrients that make up food can impact weight and can be measured in a more accurate way. The new ProPoints system takes this into account by evaluating how the body processes the nutrients in food. And now that we've run independent clinical trials to satisfy ourselves that it works - we want to make sure you are able to enjoy the advantages of this new system too.

Changing to a new system can be really beneficial when it comes to re-energising weight loss. Having to look again at portion sizes, new ProPoints values and the other changes that make this plan so flexible means you may regain some of the motivation you enjoyed when you first joined WW. Many experienced members who've already tested his new plan found that the changeover to the new ProPoints system gave their weight loss efforts a whole new boost.

The new ProPoints plan is more flexible and liveable:

Fruit has a ProPoints value of zero. This means you can snack on apples, strawberries, grapes or bananas (or any other of your favourite fruit) and dd them to meals without needing to count them as part of your daily allowance.

A weekly ProPoints allowance, alongside your daily allowance, means you enjoy added flexibility so you can fit the plan more easily around your daily life. From now on, there's no need to cut back, as you one did, to save POINTS values for a special occasion or a night out. Instead you just use some of you weekly ProPoints allowance whenever you need more than your daily allowance provides for.

Filling and Healthy Foods continue, like Filling Foods, to hightlight the most satisfying foods you can eat. The added benefit now is that they also indicate the healthy choiced too. For each food group, we've carefully selected choices that at are higher in fibre and/or lower in salt,sugar and saturated fat. So you can still s-t-r-e-t-c-h your ProPoints budjet, stay fuller for longer and now know that you're making really informed choices for your health.

You'll notice that the daily allowance your Leader gives you, when you start to follow the new ProPoints plan, is significantly different from your POINTS allowance.

It doesn't mean that you necessarily have more values to spend of food. the fact is that the ProPoints values of foods and drinks have changed and your daily ProPoints allowance has changed, in line with this whole new system.

There is no way to compare values in the old system with those in the ProPoints plan. ProPoints values reflect the amount of protein, carbohydrate, fat and fibre in food - rather than calories and saturated fat of the old POINTS system.

The two systems will not work together to produce regular weight loss.

A McDonalds Double Cheeseburger was 9.5pts on the POINTS system and will now be 12pts with the ProPoints system.

... but your weight
.
What we now call your ProPoints budjet includes a daily allowance combined with an additional weekly allowance too. Along with any activity ProPoints values you earn, they will create the calorie deficit your body needs to lose weight at a regular, healthy rate of up to 2lb a week.

The daily allowance can only be used for the day in question. It can't be carried over to the next day. The lowest daily allowance is now 29.

The weekly allowance can be used in anyaway you choose across the week. You may want to eat bigger portions each day, save it for a big occasion or you can keep it in your 'back pocket' for those unexpected or unplanned events where you need more than your daily allowance.

Activity ProPoints values have changed too, but continue, like activity POINTS values did, to help yo ubuild up and track your activity levels. You can stil exchange them for food if you choose to. The activity ProPoints values chart can be found in the Pocket Guide you receive in your first week.

So there you go. Weight Watchers is changing it's pointing system from POINTS to ProPoints from next week. The points value in food will be going up. We'll be having a higher daily ProPoints allowance. We'll be getting a weekly ProPoints allowance on top of our daily ProPoints allowance. Fruit and Vegetebles will be zero points. (I have read somewhere that it doesn't include tinned fruit so that will have to be pointed.) We won't be able to save points from one day to the next. Exercise points will alter.

I'm actually really looking forward to the new changes. The old system has been going for 15 years and does work. Like with everthing else, things improve and alter for the better.
